I'm relatively new to your work and don't know how much you stray from historical work. Have you ever tried to make a puzzle/trick box/chest?

Well, welcome aboard Andrew. Re: puzzle/trick box - no, I do mostly stick to historical examples - or my versions of them. And - I don't know what puzzle/trick boxes are...

That makes sense! I think I saw the more complex mortise for the lock, and the joke about getting stuck inside, and wondered if the boxes ever get more whimsical. A puzzle box locks, but the key is usually "knowing how it's made", like this:

Blacksmith-made. I have one to use this year made by Tom Latané - I don't think Tom has a website as such - but he's easily found. https://spaco.org/latane/TCLatane.htm
