I’m fairly new to your (PF) work and blog. I love these boxes, but wondered what was their historical use. Especially the internal lidded till

We rarely see itemized lists that tell us what goes in boxes in the period. In general the boxes are for storing small textiles, but really most anything that can be tucked into them - sometimes papers, books, household tools/utensils - most anything. The tills - even harder to discern what is stored in them. Some think candles because of the shape - but I've never seen a specific indication of what's stored in a till.

What an astounding piece of boxwork/strapwork, Peter. And congratulations to Bill on the panel …

And .. we also saw a pair of Northern Parula this weekend in Franklin MA, visiting our backyard feeder. So rare here, very exciting.

Nice work, beautiful carvings. I don't know why but I love to see recicled parts on furniture, like you did on the till lid on the inside face, but I know if I tried to do that myself I would feel guilty...

Beautiful box! Makes me want to try strapwork again. I might even succeed this time! Casual just-out-walking birdwatching found 2 pairs of Orioles and a Rose Breasted Grossbeak. A Great Blue Heron flew right overhead, I had never heard them make a sound before.
