Hi Peter, after the bigger boxes this one seems so petit, almost dainty. I remember carving the design on the front with you in the class last year. I reversed the direction of the scrolls. In hindsight I think Thomas Dennis got it right.

I once saw a “case of drawers” referred to as a “cupboard” which seemed awkward. I recently built a (more rustic) one to hold nails and screws in my shop. I just refer to it as a “ cabinet” - though I have no idea if that’s any better.

Hi Peter , Love this little box . I often wonder what was its purpose of use , when its contemporaries are much larger in form . The box you are making , is it a reproduction of the original? No carving on the sides , did the original have gimmals / snipe hinges ? As the box your making does . Hope all is well . Almost forgot what winter was like .

Hi Michael - yes to gimmals, you can see the holes for them in the box, patched holes in the lid. I deviated from the original - used a pine bottom. Didn't want to use one of my oak panels there. I'm writing about it now, you'll see it in a day or two. Thanks, PF

Feeling inspired. Never done carving before though. I really like the smaller sizes as my shop is tiny and not set up for beds, armoires and other large furniture.
