2nd one is easier

I did some more of the carving for the joined table underway in the shop. I have done so little carving in the past year, this feels like a baptism of fire. The two long aprons (46” long x 4 1/4” high) give me a lot of area to design. I was making this up as I go along, so the first one was slow…but now the 2nd one goes right along because there’s no decisions to make. Above I’m using a compass to copy some spacing from the first apron to the second. On that first one - I just did all the incised work and just about no background removal yet. That makes it easier to see which tool made which cut and copy the spacing. Once they were both “struck” I started in on cutting down the background. Below is an incised section - to get there I used 2 or 3 chisels and as many gouges too. A compass, awl & square and marking gauge. And a ruler.
