[Update: Both the chair & the panel sold - but I can & will make more. If you’d like to be on a waiting list, send me an email & we’ll sort it out. I don’t take a deposit for the waiting list, I make a chair/box/panel and email you to see if you still want it…etc. So no hassle involved.]
Finished up a Jennie Alexander style ladderback last week. Red oak posts and slats, the rungs are a mixture of oak, ash and/or hickory. I just pull out rungs from the pile and those are the woods I use for chair parts.
I wove a diamond pattern hickory bark seat - when the light catches them right the pattern is obvious, in other situations it’s less so. Preparing the bark is maybe the most time-consuming single operation in making the chair. Not counting the time spent harvesting the bark from the tree - I spent about an hour & 1/2 trimming two 40’ strips to width and thickness prior to weaving. I use a spokeshave to trim the thickness and it has to be as sharp as I can get it. The end result is worth it to me - a good bark seat is like no other.
Overall height is 33 1/2”, width across the front 17” and depth of the seat is 12”. Seat height is 17 1/4”. The chair is for sale - $1,500 plus shipping in US, about $200-$250. If we use paypal, I’ll add their fee to the price. Otherwise, a check in the mail.
Email me if you’d like to purchase this chair. If someone beats you to it, I can make a list - which is what I did last time. [this chair was one of 3, but the other 2 are spoken for…I’ll have more chairs in late September.] Email is Peterfollansbee7@gmail.com
The carved panel is one extra I made recently. It’s been trimmed and oiled since this photograph - is about 10” x 15” or so. Red oak. A check for $400 gets it, including shipping in the US. (paypal will be $415). Same as above, email me if you’d like it. Also if you miss out on this & want one, let me know & I’ll carve some more.
