Lately it’s been chairs, chairs, chairs. Making them, reading about them, thinking about them. Planning on making more. I finished making my recent walnut brettstuhl today - well, really yesterday but I had one more video segment to shoot and at the end of the day yesterday it was too dim in the shop. So today was more video-work on the chair than woodwork.

I’m really enjoying these chairs. I was looking back at some notes I took as I worked on a few of them in 2021/22 - each time I made one I’d record the angles that I finished with - and they were usually close enough from one leg to the next. This time all four legs were just about right on - I like them with a good amount of splay (side-to-side angle) and rake (front to back angle) - to me these chairs look ready to jump up off the floor.

In my notes I also record the resulting footprint of each chair - and it’s funny how the angles make the chair look like it has a wide footprint - but it really is quite close to some of the Windsor chairs we have around here. Here’s one of my versions of Curtis Buchanan’s democratic chair - sitting toe-to-toe to the new brettstuhl.
