I finished the box that features my version of that Honeychurch Church of St. Mary pulpit design that appeared in the previous post. When I make most of my boxes here in the shop, I use oak I’ve split, hewn and planed from the log. That’s not practical for teaching a class so when I have students they use quartersawn oak - the next best thing to handmade riven boards. This box started out in class, where I really was following one of the students who took on this design. So this box is made from quartersawn red oak with white pine for the lid and bottom. The lid is an especially nice piece of white pine - what a wood!
A lidded till inside, wooden pintle hinges and rabbet joints at the corners glued and pegged. As is my usual habit, I carved the ends too - a related pattern, the S-scrolls fit most anywhere.
H: 7 1/2” W: 22 1/2” D: 13 1/2”
It’s for sale - at a lower price than my riven-oak boxes because all I had to do for these boards was pay for them, as opposed to sweating for them.
$1,200 includes shipping in the US. Beyond that, customer pays for shipping. Here’s all the photos. If you have questions or would like to order this box, leave a comment or send an email - Peterfollansbee7@gmail.com
