[Thanks for looking - this box sold. More to come.]
I had a little time recently to finish this carved oak & pine box. It’s one of my old-standbys - my version of a box made in Braintree Massachusetts between 1660-1680.
I’ve been carving these particular patterns since 1989/90. They remain one of my favorite designs. The box is riven red oak, with a pine lid & bottom. The joints at the corners are glued and pegged - the bottom and the lid’s cleats are nailed on with handmade iron nails. The hinges here are also blacksmith-made, period-style “gimmals” or snipebill hinges. A till inside made of oak as well.
The finish is linseed oil. Over time the bright pine and oak meet up in the middle color-wise. Dimensions are very close to: H: 7 1/2” W: 22” D: 14”
$1,500 plus shipping, usually under $200.
If you’d like to buy the box, send me an email at PeterFollansbee7@gmail.com and we can sort the payment method - paypal or check.
A detail of the front
That's beautiful!
It's a beauty--the lunette carving pattern--and the change of pattern on the side--nice work.
