The past few years I’ve made several carved boxes in November & December. Imagine that. This year’s different though.
For a few reasons, (none terrible) I haven’t been in the shop much in recent weeks. So this box is the only one I’ll have for sale til the new year. It’s made of riven red oak, with a white pine lid & bottom. My typical format - till inside, wooden hinges. Wooden pegs in rabbet joints. Carved front and ends -
The size is H: 8 1/2” W: 24 3/4” and depth 14 3/4". Linseed oil finish.
Because it’s the only one I have this season, I’m going to try Chris Schwarz’ silent auction approach to sell it - send me an email with the subject “carved box” - bids start at $1,000. I usually sell these boxes for $1,500 - I’ll take bids until Sunday 8pm eastern time. Then I’ll send a note to the winner. Shipping is through USPS - runs between $50-200 depending on distance from Massachusetts. My email is PeterFollansbee7@gmail.com

Carved panel
I also have a single carved panel - I’ve done a few like this over the past month or so. I had some random bits of quartersawn red oak around, wide enough to make panels, but not enough of it to build any furniture. This is a pattern I’ve only ever seen in photographs. It’s based on furniture from north-west Yorkshire late in the 17th century. So mine’s “based-on” not a strict repro/copy of…
Can either run it horizontally or vertically. Dimensions are 10” x 14 3/4”
Price is $425 including shipping in US. ($440 through paypal - otherwise, a check for $425) I’m hoping to have time to carve one or two more before you-know-what…we’ll see.
It was fortuitous seeing your pegged rabbets. I'd been thinking of pegging some things recently (tool chest, some case work) but hesitated because I hadn't seen many people doing it. Are you angling the pegs in opposing directions? Extra dried like one would in timber framing? Thanks!
