[UPDATE: These panels sold, I’ve started a list for the next batch in June. If you’d like to be on that list, just send me an email. Thanks for all the interest in my work, I appreciate it.]
For various reasons, I had a couple panel carvings hanging around that were not destined for a piece of furniture. One was a demo I did, another a box front that didn’t end up being a box. I finished the demo panel, carved another and now those two panels and the box front are for sale. They’re all riven, quartered oak, all based on New England examples, more or less. Details below -
Ipswich panel, 9 1/4” x 15 1/2”
$500
This one’s based on the works by Thomas Dennis from Ipswich, Massachusetts, but the pattern isn’t a copy of one particular panel. I took bits and pieces from a few different examples and blended them into this carving. The finish is linseed oil, with oil paint in the background - iron oxide pigment, with a little vermillion mixed in - to make the red coloring.

Strapwork box front 6 1/8” x 20”
$600
I carved this box front while shooting material for my vimeo-series on these patterns. Several of those carvings made it into finished boxes and this one could as well- there’s not a thing wrong with it. But I got backed up with boxes, so left it as a panel. Like the panel above, it’s not a copy of any one carving, but takes motifs from this & that, now composed into a “new” old design. Linseed oil finish.

Dedham panel 8 3/4” x 15 1/2”
$450
Another from a video series, this one from Dedham, Massachusetts, circa 1640-1680. Years ago, a collector we know had a chest from this group analyzed to learn about its original color scheme - and it was something like this. A thin red color on the foreground, with lampblack for the background. I mixed these colors in linseed oil.

If you’d like to purchase any of these carvings, send me an email Peterfollansbee7@gmail.com - you can pay by check or paypal - for paypal I add their fee. The prices include shipping in US. Elsewhere, we’ll figure it out.
